Confidentiality
Confidentiality is my top priority. Any information you share with me is protected by software that complies with PHIPA regulations, ensuring your data’s privacy and security, even in extraordinary circumstances as outlined by law.
Limits of Confidentiality
What you discuss during your therapy sessions is kept confidential. No contents of the sessions, whether verbal or written, may be shared with another party without your written consent or the written consent of your legal guardian. Exceptions include:
- If you disclose a plan or threat to harm yourself.
- If you disclose abuse of children or vulnerable adults.
- If you disclose homicidal intent.
I use Simple Practice, one of Canada’s most secure practice management software programs. This web-based Electronic Medical Record system ensures compliance with PHIPA and meets all college, provincial, and federal regulations. Your information is securely stored on Simple Practice’s secure server.
Limits of Services and Assumption of Risks
Therapy sessions carry both benefits and risks. They can significantly reduce distress, improve relationships, and resolve specific issues. However, due to the many variables that affect therapy sessions, improvements and “cures” cannot be guaranteed for any condition. Risks include experiencing uncomfortable feelings and discussing unpleasant situations and aspects of your life.
